Today, we had a nice run of feeder cattle in Vermilion. Although the cattle remain very strong, most of the trade today was 5-10 cents lower than last week. The cattle market fundamentals are very strong, but the very real possibility of an employee strike at a major beef packing plant in the USA , and an uptick in grain prices is causing some pressure on the feeder market this week. Going forward, I think volatility is virtually unavailable, but the market will likely stay very strong until the fundamentals change.

Cows and bulls traded $5-8 higher across the board. Next week we are expecting 100 bred cows in conjunction with our regular sale.

LIGHT BRED HFRS: $4500-5000
GOOD BRED COWS: $5000-6100
MEDIUM BRED COWS: $4250-5000
OLDER BRED COWS: $3500-4250

754 bred females came through the ring, here, today. Lots of top-quality heifers traded from $6000-$7250 with lots of consistency on the heifers from $5400-$6000. The younger bred cows traded from $5300-6000, with mature cows trading hands in the ranges of $4300-$5300.
